Design Mattias Stenberg

Often described as an island or an oasis, Plymå makes seating a central feature in any space. Plymå is made in several versions. For outdoor use, materials such as limestone and cast concrete are used to craft smooth, weather-resistant surfaces. The indoor version features wooden surfaces and lacquered steel parts.  The position of the backrests and armrests is flexible, as is the placement of table surfaces. Plymå can be customised according to the users’ needs.

Materials and surface treatments

Kalksten.

Plymå indoor sofa: Stand in galvanized and powder-coated steel. Sits in solid ash, surface treatment white pigmented oil wax. Storage area in gray limestone.

Plymå round: Stand in galvanized and powder-coated steel. Seat in solid ash, surface treatment white pigmented oil wax. Storage area in gray limestone.

Plymå stool: Sits in solid ash, surface treatment white pigmented oil wax. Storage area in gray limestone. Stand galvanized and powder coated steel.

Plymå concrete: Stand in galvanized and powder-coated steel seat in cast concrete. Table surface in cover-glazed pine in gray NCS S 8000N.

Standard colors on all steel are Yellow RAL 1023 and black Noir 2200 sable.

Concrete

Concrete is cement mixed with crushed stone or aggregate. The material is very strong in compression but fragile in tension. To compensate for this concrete can be reinforced, often with steel. 

Fiberbetong

Fibre-reinforced concrete is a concrete mix with glass fiber. The material has increased strength and elasticity.

Steel

Nola uses high-quality steel with good strength in our products. Steel rusts if left untreated and must therefore be surface treated. 

Electrogalvanized

Electrogalvanizing (also known as zinc plating) provides corrosion protection through the sacrifice of zinc ions. It is created via a zinc coating on the steel using an electric current.

Powder coating

Powder coating is a coating that is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. Unlike conventional liquid paint, powder coating is usually applied electrostatically and then cured under heat or with ultraviolet light. The result is an even, hard-wearing coloured surface with the desired gloss level.

Pine

Nola's pine is of high quality and comes from sustainable forestry. Pine is an environmentally friendly, domestically produced material. Damaged or untreated pine is quite easily attacked by decomposition processes; therefore, it is particularly important to repair damaged surfaces.

Ash

Ash wood is light, hard and tough, bends easily and is light in colour. The wood has clear annual rings and, thanks to its natural properties, is often used for furniture, carpentry and flooring.

Water-based glaze

Varnishing of wood is done with a water-based varnish. A water-based paint that is kinder to the environment. Under normal use, the paint has a good wear resistance and long durability.

Assembly and placement

Surface mount

Can be bolted above ground, to the floor or to a cast-in-place foundation. Bolts not included.

Delivered assembled.

Maintenance

Powdercoated steel

Products that are powder-coated can be touch-up painted with alkyd paint.

Water-based glazed pine

Products in varnished pine must be maintained regularly with alkyd paint. Maintenance intervals approximately 1 time per year. Damage and cracks should be repaired immediately. Touch-up paints in spray packaging are available in standard colors to order.

Concrete

Both normal concrete and fibre-reinforced concrete are sensitive to hard edge impacts. A concrete product that has been damaged can be repaired with polyester filler, such as the product “Plastic Padding”.

Holma Square

Located on the outskirts of Malmö, Holma was a district known mostly for its residential buildings and semi-public courtyards until 2016. That year, the community received its first communal space in the form of a new square—a place designed to feel like everyone’s living room, fostering a sense of togetherness and comfort.

Mattias Stenberg

Designer Mattias Stenberg runs his own designstudio in Stockholm. Stenberg works within a variety of fields including interior architecture, furniture design and light design. Since the start of the studio in 2010, Stenberg has received several awards and mentions for his designs, including German Design Award, Good Design Award and Nordic Designer of the Year.
