Krokbäcksparken

Commissioner: Office of Public Works, City of Malmö
Developer: MVB Syd
Landscape architect: Susanna Kapusta
Designer: White Arkitekter

Krokbäcks Park in Malmö’s south-western Hyllie neighbourhood interconnects the nearby Krokbäck and Holma areas. The park has been redeveloped to create new sites for neighbourhood children and teenagers. The park’s landscaped areas give way to Hyllie’s new swimming complex and provides the neighbourhoods with an essential open-air breathing space. The planners and architects set out to create attractive outdoor spaces with group activity areas for people of all ages.

“We want the park to attract residents and visitors alike, young and old, while providing more space for young people,” explained landscape architect Susanna Kapusta when interviewed for www.hyllie.se. “There was clearly a need to create more public spaces for young people in Hyllie,” she said.

A new version of Långbordet with red supports and a hard-waxed, oiled pine surface - was installed, winding through the park to provide spaces for conversations and spontaneous interactions.

Event spaces in the park include a boules court, trampolines, a pink basketball court, colourful badminton courts and outdoor seating for chess games and conversation. Another area in the park provides spaces for open-air meetings and social activities. The area is also where Nola’s Långbordet – a new version with red supports and a hard-waxed, oiled pine surface - was installed, winding through the park to provide spaces for conversations and spontaneous interactions. Areas with barbecue grills were developed alongside slopes for sunbathing and outdoor showers. Decorative flower beds are situated nearby.

The rolling hills known as Krokbäckshallarna provide the park with a magnificent green backdrop. Earth excavated for the construction of the swimming complex was later integrated into the park’s landscape.
