Albano is a significant urban development project in Stockholm, connecting the city centre with Stockholm University and the National City Park. The area comprises several buildings, designed by BSK Arkitekter and Cedervall, forming a vibrant knowledge hub for education and research.
Elin Persson, interior architect at LINK Arkitektur, shares insights into the interior design concept and process, closely aligned with the university’s vision for future learning environments:
“Stockholm University wanted attractive spaces where students and staff could spend long hours comfortably. We designed a concept based on the body’s and mind’s different needs throughout the day, creating zones for social interaction, focus, relaxation and reflection, and creativity,” says Elin Persson.

Campus Albano includes several buildings, among them Houses 1, 2, and 4, with the latter two connected by a social corridor on levels 2 and 3. LINK Arkitektur developed the interiors across 45,000 square metres. The campus welcomes approximately 6,300 full-time students and over 1,000 staff members daily.
To create interior environments robust enough to meet high demands and heavy wear, LINK chose outdoor furniture from Nola for indoor use. The furniture was selected for its playful expression and park-like aesthetic, reflecting the interior design concept and the architectural vision of the buildings. For House 1, the inspiration came from the National City Park, while Houses 2 and 4 drew on themes such as clouds, mountains, and landscapes. By bringing outdoor furniture indoors, the design seamlessly ties these concepts together, creating cohesive and engaging spaces.
