Designs from Nola at Cannes Film Festival Pavilion

2019–05–17

Nola provided outdoor products for the Swedish-Norwegian pavilion during the film festival in Cannes. The pavilion, which is Sweden's hub at the Cannes Film Festival, is a collaboration between Swedish and Norwegian film commissioners and the Swedish Institute. ‘Into the Woods’ was chosen as the theme for the pavilion’s interior and outdoor terraces.  The terraces were furnished with environmentally-friendly designs from the Rocky furniture group designed by Nina Jobs. Mia Cullin's planter Gro was also included on the terrace.

For nine years, Sweden and Norway have shared a pavilion during the Cannes Film Festival. The purpose is to promote both nations’ film industries, and also showcase creative industries, such as design. Each year, designers and manufacturers are highlighted in different ways. This year, Nola was one of those chosen to represent Sweden’s design industry together with other well-known brands.

The Rocky furniture group includes rocking chairs, stackable chairs and round tables in varying heights. All of the designs are crafted with steel tube frames and wooden surfaces made from slats of environmentally-friendly accoya. The seats are generous in size while streamlined in appearance, creating a style typical of Scandinavian design.

The Gro planter is made with rollers integrated into its base. The planter is designed with a corresponding trellis for indoor and outdoor use. Characterised by its round shape, the trellis supports vines and clinging plants, while also providing a space divider and decorative feature.

This year's programme focuses on gender equality. The Swedish Institute has created an exhibition about leading actresses in the Swedish and Norwegian film industries over the past 100 years. The exhibition opens in the Swedish-Norwegian pavilion during the film festival.

The pavilion is open daily between 14 - 26 May.
