Bergsjön Cultural Centre

Client: City of Gothenburg
Architect: Sweco
Designer: Joel Karlsson, Krook & Tjäder Design

Bergsjön Cultural Centre, outside Gothenburg, Sweden, has become a vibrant hub for community life. This 2,500-square-metre building, nominated as Gothenburg’s Best Building of 2024, offers cultural and creative activities for all ages. Visitors can enjoy spaces ranging from art studios and ceramics workshops to a library, music studios, and performance stages for dance and theatre.

Outside, the square called Rymdtorget, has been designed as an inviting space for play, gatherings, and relaxation. With green spaces, plantings, and playful elements like the large letters spelling out "KULTUR," meaning culture, the square encourages community interaction. Nola has supported this vision with its Jern benches, whose robust and accessible design enhances both functionality and character in the space.

The Jern benches offer practical seating comfort and bring a distinctive touch with their oxidised red steel frames. With high armrests for added accessibility, they invite people of all ages to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The Jern benches align with the Cultural Centre’s goal of fostering a welcoming, socially sustainable environment.

With the Bergsjön Cultural Centre and Rymdtorget, the City of Gothenburg has created a destination that strengthens social cohesion, creativity, and cultural diversity.
