Höllvikens Strand Bus Stop

Commissioned and designed by: Vellinge Municipality
Landscape Architect: Edge
Designers: Snøhetta and Broberg & Ridderstråle

In its effort to boost regional public transportation between Malmö and its surrounding areas, Vellinge Municipality has invested in developing more inviting bus stops along this route. With thoughtful design elements, such as Nola's Våg bike shelter and Bill Post notice boards, these stops make it easier for residents to choose sustainable travel options.

This original design is crafted in the shape of a column, making it easy to see. Bill Post offers a bigger surface area than traditional notice boards.

Höllvikens Strand bus stop is one of the standout examples of this project. Inspired by the sea and forest, the station was designed to blend seamlessly with the natural landscape. Breezy grass fields and softly curving hedges surround the stop, while new pine trees open up scenic views toward the coast. “We wanted the station to feel organic and welcoming, so we chose natural materials and fluid lines to enhance its connection to the landscape,” says Mia Border, landscape architect at Edge.

For cyclists, Nola's Våg bike shelters are now installed at several bus stops along this route, including Höllvikens Strand. These shelters provide a dedicated, weather-protected space for bikes, likely encouraging more people to opt for cycling as part of their commute. With ground-level lighting, they not only enhance safety by reducing the risk of theft but also add a reassuring glow to the area after dark. Våg has quickly become a recognizable landmark along this stretch, symbolizing a commitment to eco-friendly transportation options.

“The bike shelters are a great recurring feature. Their aesthetic complements the beach and coastal surroundings beautifully. With lighting from underneath, they act as glowing beacons along the route,” Mia adds.

To enhance the stop’s social dimension, Bill Post notice boards are available at many of these stations, allowing travelers to share information or spark conversations as they wait. The boards also feature lighting, further enhancing the safety of the station, especially during the darker months.

Together, these elements make the bus stops more than just transit points. They’re thoughtfully designed spaces that provide a positive start to each commuter’s day and encourage regular use.

Våg was designed as a complement to contemporary architecture and suits any modern outdoor development.
