Sweden’s annual Oyster Competition invites architecture students to propose solutions to social issues. The competition is arranged collaboratively by Swedish Architects and the Oyster landscape architecture seminar.
This year’s edition addresses the feelings of loneliness and isolation resulting from the Corona virus pandemic. Citing ‘Involuntary Loneliness’ as the theme, the 2021 competition invites students to consider how city streets can be made less alienating, and subsequently, more inclusive.
As Oyster 2021 calls for entries that explore how streets can be reimagined to counteract loneliness, it also considers how they could help improve mental health. The competition is open to all students attending one of Sweden's architecture degree programs. This year, Nola is pleased to be one of the competition’s sponsors. We’re looking forward to the students' suggestions for making urban street environments work better for everyone. The deadline for submissions is 30 September, and the winners will be announced on 3 December 2021.
On Tuesday, Nola’s Founder and Head of Design, Agneta Stake, participated in a panel discussion with the theme “History and Future”. The panel discussion was part of the event Inside Swedish Design and can be seen here.
