The pleat-like folds in this design were inspired by origami, the Japanese art of crafting objects from folded paper. Like origami, this bench has been designed with crisp ‘folds’ that form the seat and shape the backrest. The result is a park bench that appears to balance weightlessly on the front edge, but is anchored to the ground by sturdy metal supports.

For many years, a redevelopment project has been underway, aiming to make the site more welcoming to visitors, and more secure and accessible to cyclists and pedestrians. The new development includes wide pedestrian walkways, bicycle lanes, outdoor seating areas, planters and trees.
When Sweco Architects redesigned Centralplan, the open-air concourse outside Stockholm’s central train station, they decided to commission a new line of park benches for the site.
Malmö Central train station is one of the nation’s largest rail links. The station’s strategic position on the country’s southern tip makes it a gateway to central Europe, through which 17 million passengers travel each year.
