A 2011 Brunel Award for Outstanding Design in Railway Transport

The Brunel Awards for Outstanding Visual Design in Railway Transportation are held annually in Washington, DC, but the juries nominate projects from around the world. In the 2011 'Rail Station' category, the jury awarded a prize to Jernhusen AB for their extensions to Malmö Central Station. Nola's involvement in the project culminated in products that were customised to suit the architecture and create spectacular effects. For example, the Goal backed bench was adapted to sit on a low wall that integrated it into the architecture. The Origami bench was customised and fitted with lighting to provide a diffuse light source that emanated from underneath. Elbin litterbins were inscribed with laser-cut texts and placed throughout the site. The No 2 bench was redesigned for the bus shelters outside the station, providing hip-height seating that travellers could lean against while waiting for buses to arrive.
